10 Most Over-Rated Movies Of 2016

5. Deadpool

Deadpool Reynolds
20th Century Fox

There’s no doubt that in a sea of superhero movies that take themselves way too seriously the R-rated, piss-taking Deadpool was a breath of fresh air. To give the film it’s dues it had a great lead in Ryan Reynolds, some genuinely comical moments and clever-ish in-jokes and largely stayed true to its source material. Fact is, though, Deadpool isn’t half as original, subversive or shocking as it likes to think it is.

F-bombs and fourth wall breaking aside, there’s not too much to differentiate Deadpool from your average, run of the mill Marvel origin story. As for being the ground-breaking, superhero cliché-smashing film that the comic book movie genre was crying out for, let’s remind ourselves of a little movie called Kick-Ass that did all this six years before Deadpool was released and featured an eleven-year-old girl dropping the C-bomb. Don’t get us wrong: Deadpool is a great movie but hardly the game-changing masterpiece it’s hailed as.
