10 Most Overrated Films of 2014

1. Guardians Of The Galaxy

A lack of major stars. A confusing premise. A director better known for low-budget horror flicks than summer blockbusters. Eccentric €œcomic book-ey€ elements like a talking raccoon and an aphasia-stricken walking tree. Oh, and a $170 million budget. These were among the most persistent concerns that followed Guardians Of The Galaxy each and every step of its journey to the big screen. So the fact that the film ended up earning $770 million worldwide, not to mention turning out to be a critical smash (earning a glowing 90% on Rotten Tomatoes), was seen by many movie fans as something to be celebrated. Maybe it is. That doesn€™t change the fact, however, that despite the movie€™s cheekily distinct sense of humour and dazzling visuals and 70's/80's song-heavy-soundtrack and Marvel universe-building galore, Guardians Of The Galaxy still, well, kind of sucks. Look, no one€™s denying that the movie isn€™t well put together - in fact, quite the opposite: it€™s the movie€™s jarring desire to be anything and everything that is, in fact, its biggest problem. One minute you€™re watching a space opera reminiscent of Star Wars, the next you€™re watching a comedy shtick in the vein of Abbot and Costello. It€™s jarring, and not all that dissimilar a situation to 2011€™s Green Lantern - and at least that movie had the advantage of being somewhat more focused, narratively speaking. By all means let's look forward to Guardians Of The Galaxy 2, but let€™s also look forward to a more consistent movie. It€™s easy to be the smart aleck in the back of the room, dryly commenting on what one perceives to be things worth correcting. It€™s decidedly tougher to actually make the effort to be better. What would you say to most overrated movies of 2014 are? Were some of the entries in this list misplaced? Have your say down in the comments.
