10 Most Overrated Horror Films Of The Past 20 Years
4. Insidious
What The Critics Said: “A haunted house movie that has some of the most shivery and indelible images I’ve seen in any horror film in decades. Yes, it’s that unsettling.” (Entertainment Weekly)
Why They're Wrong: If you’ve never watched a haunted house movie in your life, then you’ll jump out of your seat while watching Insidious - crashing strings accompany every scare. But if you’ve seen The Haunting (1963) and The Amityville Horror (1979), to name just two, then this is just the same old same with a fresh lick of paint.
Also, if you’ve watched The Conjuring (2013), you may have trouble keeping the films separate in your mind. Both starred Patrick Wilson, both were directed by James Wan and both featured nice American families trapped in haunted houses. Both featured ghost hunters, both placed young children in jeopardy and both started franchises. But at least Insidious didn't spawn a spin-off as bland and unmemorable as Annabelle.
