They provide necessary solace for the general US public, telling them that while they're in a foreign country for vague reasons, stacking up collateral damage like nobody's business, at least the killing machines they've sent there have each other's backs. It's a logic that's barely logical, but there you have it. American Sniper's entry on this list most likely amounts to its patriotic appeal to Americans (which is ironic, considering torrenting movies harms one of the USA's biggest industries) and the desire for people to understand what the buzz surrounding the film was about - buzz that equalled about $547 million in worldwide box office takings.
