10 Most Pointless CGI Movie Shots Ever

6. Henry Cavill's "Digital Shave" - Justice League

Now, on the face of things (pardon the pun), you might protest that Warner Bros. spending roughly $3 million to digitally shave Henry Cavill's face for Justice League re-shoots was absolutely necessary.

After all, Cavill was contractually prevented from shaving his bushy 'tache until Mission: Impossible - Fallout had completed filming.

Except, there were several options that Warner Bros. had available to them here, and pretty much all of them were better than just pressing on and "fixing it in post", as the saying goes.

Shutting down production for a few weeks was obviously the most sensible option. Though it wouldn't have been cheap, it ultimately would've prevented the film from becoming a laughing stock and perhaps even helped its box office in the long run.

Secondly, given how badass Cavill's facial hair actually was in Fallout, and that many fans expected to see a resurrected Superman with facial hair anyway, they could've leaned into it and re-shot Cavill's entire role with a full grizzled face of hair (even adding onto it with a false beard if need be).

Given that Supes' role is fairly small in the movie and it largely consists of material collected from re-shoots regardless, it likely would've been cheaper and certainly less embarrassing than the CGI beard removal.

When you've sunk $300 million into a project already, it really doesn't pay to skimp on the big picture stuff - and that's exactly what Warner Bros. did by over-relying on VFX.
