3. Tom Cruise
Love him or loathe him, you can't argue with Tom Cruise's work ethic and dedication to each and every role he undertakes - there are few actors who truly define the term "movie star" in this day and age, and yet Cruise - for all his foibles - manages to bring that sense of gravitas to each of his films. He's rarely anything but mesmerising to watch on-screen - a tour de force of charisma. Better yet, you can tell that he cares about the quality of his motion pictures. A lot of people hate Tom Cruise, of course, because a) he's a bit weird off-screen and b) all that Scientology stuff is kind of alienating (excuse the pun). And it's in the handling of those aspects that tend to define what you think of Cruise; if you can separate the man from the actor, then there's a good chance you "get" him and respond well to his movie roles. If you can't help but recall that ill-judged Oprah interview everytime somebody mentions his name, though - well, chances are you're probably not a big fan.
