10 Most Powerful (Fictional) Women Of 2015

1. Furiosa

Furiosa Mad Max Fury Road
Warner Bros.

Far from the usual female role of the damsel in distress or the subordinate, second-sting protagonist to the male hero, Furiosa is a powerhouse of a character. In fact Furiosa, Played by Charlize Theron, is in many ways the true hero of Mad Max.

While Max spends most of the film without any obvious motivation beyond surviving from minute to minute, Furiosa has a clear mission that drives her from start to finish. Appearing in the movie's opening scenes to save a group of women from lives as glorified sex slaves, Furiosa proceeds to lead her band of women across the barren wasteland of Australia on a quest for freedom.

Furiosa has a clearer drive than Max. She has a cooler ride than Max. She's a better shot than Max. And yes, she wears tight leather throughout the film. But with her shaved head and cybernetic arm, Furiosa is more of hero than Max could ever hope to be.

With so many great female characters out there, this list could have run to 20, 50, or 100 names. Who do you think we missed?

With a (nearly) useless degree in English literature and a personal trainer qualification he's never used, Freddie spends his times writing things that he hopes will somehow pay the rent. He's also a former professional singer, and plays the saxophone and ukulele. He's not really used to talking about himself in the third person, and would like to stop now, thanks.
