10 Most Profitable Movies Of 2014

9. Heaven Is For Real

Production budget: $12,000,000 Worldwide gross: $101,332,962 Profit: 844% Back in April, the sequel to Captain America made trade headlines by banking $95 million on its opening weekend in the U.S. - almost double the amount accumulated by The First Avenger in 2011. The Winter Soldier just about managed to hold on to top spot the following weekend in the face of competition from Rio 2 and again clung on to the top rung in its third weekend. That time, however, it was run awfully close by the mighty Heaven Is For Real. Never heard of Heaven Is For Real? In all likelihood that€™s the case for the vast majority of casual cinemagoers, but that didn€™t stop the Christian docudrama from making a big impact when it was released on April 16. The Easter weekend release date was no coincidence and the pious packed out cinemas over the four-day weekend and beyond, the film finishing its run with over $101 million in global receipts. Based on a best-selling book of the same name, Heaven is for Real tells the story of a four-year-old boy who claims to have visited Heaven during a near-death experience. Middling reviews made no odds to the film's unquestionable success, with the $12 million budget a trifling sum compared with its final haul.

I watch movies and I watch sport. I also watch movies about sport, and if there were a sport about movies I'd watch that too. The internet was the closest thing I could find.
