10 Most Rewatchable Films This Decade (So Far)

3. The Avengers

Tom Hardy Fury Road
Marvel Studios

A quick glance at the numbers tells you just how rewatchable Marvel's The Avengers has been - box office records were smashed left, right and centre while sales on DVD and blu-ray soared through the roof. It's hardly surprising given how immense the anticipation was for the first on-screen gathering of everyone's favourite superheroes.

Fortunately. The Avengers lived up to the hype. Joss Whedon succeeded in carefully juggling all the elements - and big name stars - to craft a fast paced, sharply scripted and never dull superhero tentpole movie, while managing to strike a perfect balance between drama and levity. It takes a degree of sophistication to create a robust, fun film containing so many potentially disparate elements, but The Avengers managed to pull off that rare feat in style.

The Avengers isn't short on spectacular action set pieces which lure viewers back to the film time and again (even if the final battle featuring a giant wormhole spewing aliens feels like something we've seen dozens of times in blockbusters). When contrasted with a film like Justice League it's clear where The Avengers got it right, delivering exactly what fans wanted and ensuring a place in the pantheon of excellent comic book adaptations.
