10 Most Ridiculous Stunts In Fast And The Furious Movies

3. Chopping Choppers (Hobbs & Shaw)

This F&F spin-off featuring The Rock and Jason Statham proved to be just as fun and bombastic as its previous brethren. Towards the end of the movie, cyber-enhanced villain Brixton kidnaps Shaw’s sis Hattie in a helicopter, and it’s up to our titular heroes to save the day, in pursuit in a big ol’ truck.

In a bid to bring the chopper down, Hobbs goes fishing, chucking a chain around the helo’s wing, which is hooked up to their truck’s winch.

Brixton commands the pilot to pull up, threatening to up-end their ensnared vehicle. But help arrives, in the form of the Hobbs family, each with their own truck. They hook on, creating a quad-truck caterpillar filled with metal and testosterone.

With such a darling set-piece that included the Rock hanging on to the back of a truck, while wired to a chopper and three other trucks while dangling over a cliff edge, this F&F stunt is certainly up there with the more ludicrously impractical. Never mind how the chopper struggles to at first lift off a single truck, then seemingly becomes close to taking four off the ground.

And while a lot of it is done in CGI, stunt coordinators filming on the island of Samoa did create some practical shots. A stunt pilot was hired as an aerial stunt coordinator, who flew the Black Hawk chopper, while rigs were built for the trucks so they could be driven on just two wheels. In addition, the explosions were real, creating a jet wash that rocked the helo in mid-air.
