9. Beni - The Mummy

Oh Beni, you selfish caricature of ancient greed. There was no way you were going to be allowed to make it out of The Mummy alive and yet, there was always a little bit of doubt in the back of our minds that you would meet a demise fitting ofyour obnoxious, sniveling cowardice and general wankish-ness.

And even though his just deserts are foreshadowed relatively early on in the film - when Evelyn remarks that "Nasty little fellows such as yourself always get their comeuppance" - it doesn't make it any less satisfying when he gets them.

While trying to escape a series of boobytraps that he set off during his treasure-grubbing escapades as Egypt's Biggest Wang, Rick, Evelyn, and even the mildly jerky Jonathan are all able to escape thanks to their Indiana Jones-like instincts. But Beni, the unlovable, double-crossingknob that he is, gets trapped inside the ruins of Hamunaptra (the aptly-named City of the Dead), while trying to lug out a comically oversized sack of treasure.

And even though we don't get to see his death, we do get to hear the sounds of him being eaten alive by a terrifying horde of scarabs. And that's just fine.
