8. Tumbling Doll Of Flesh (1998)
Yes, it is time to examine 'that' sort of Japanese film. Marrying hardcore pornography and horror was not a new concept in Z-Grade Exploitation by the time Tumbling Doll of Flesh sneaked its lurid way onto celluloid. Italian Trash Movie Supremo, Joe D'Amato had tried to combine the two genres in the woeful Porno Holocaust and also in the not much better Erotic Nights of the Living Dead - but that's a whole different saga for another article.
The plot of Tumbling Doll of Flesh? Erm..... A young Japanese woman participates as an actress in a pretty damn violent, and fetish driven hardcore porno for who I assume are polymorphous perverts. We get to watch all the fun of this porno and as the action gets even more gross, the actress objects to participation. So she tries to leave, and of course the director, cameraman and actor stop her from going and pulverise her to death with extreme sexual torture.
The film is chiefly sought after by committed, unapologetic gore hounds who are used to levels of brutality in Japanese cinema that are of the highest entrail laden, depraved calibre. So if you have enjoyed the Guinea Pig series or Grotesque, you may find that Tumbling Doll of Flesh hits your sweet spot.
It is also highly sought after by the merely curious who wish to see how far the film can push the limits of taste. Either way, I would warn novice J Horror fans that once seen, it won't be forgotten. And no, bleaching your eyeballs won't help to erase the memories!
