4. Entrails Of A Virgin (1986)
This is one film that I am actually embarrassed about having it in my collection. It makes me feel like a seedy pornographer, so it lingers shamefacedly at the back of my DVDs, hoping never to get noticed. But I have dusted it off to reappraise it, not just for this list, but also to satisfy my inner ghoul. Is it really as repugnant as I recall? Let's see...
Well, the plot concerns a bunch of young Japanese people who are doing a photo shoot in a forest. There is abundant sexual fun to be had among the crew, who just fornicate and participate in SM play with abandon - these guys and gals have butts that truly won't quit - until a scary monster with a giant penis arrives on the scene and starts killing everyone off.
It is a pretty simple, lacklustre plot that has been done to death and broken down to its bare roots by Entrails of a Virgin. However, the scope of all the kinkiness is amusingly wide and there is something about films from Japan that I can never work out, particularly in this film. When there is heterosexual sex happening on the screen, the female participants emit such heartfelt screams and groans that I cannot work out if the women are being ecstatically fulfilled or horribly molested. And this happens in virtually every sordid Japanese trash film.
Another annoyance is the fogging of areas that contain pubic hair and the actor's/actresses' private parts. It seems like Japan has a license on global filth cinema and a really dirty mind but yet they like to draw a limit on films by the optic censoring of genitals that supposedly lends them a measure of virtue. I call shenanigans on Japanese film censorship!
