10 Most Shocking Betrayals In Superhero Movie History

8. Ego Kills Star Lord's Mum With A Brain Tumor (Guardians Of The Galaxy 2)

At the end of the first Guardians Of The Galaxy installment, there is a great bit of foreshadowing when Yondu yells out that Peter "Star Lord" Quill's father, Ego, is "an a-hole". However, after hearing what Ego had done to Peter's mother, I think Yondu was being generous

After the tragic death of his mother, the orphaned Quill finally comes face to face with Ego: the father he never knew. Ego is a charismatic, well bearded, God who mesmerises Peter not only with his ability to manipulate matter but with his stories about how he fell in love with Star Lord's mother.

Ego, being the "a-hole" that he is, later admits that his relationship with Peter's mother was nothing special but that he was impregnating women all over the galaxy in order to harness the celestial power of their children and killing those who failed. Not only is this one of the most shocking scenes in the Marvel Cinema Universe, but it also results in one of the most breathtaking fight scenes between the father and son.

Although I would argue an even bigger betrayal is that Ego morphs into David Hasslehoff. How dare he? He isn't fit to spend a second in The Hoff's shoes.
