This film has made it onto this list not only because it’s a bit of a classic in the campus-horror scene, but because it has a very... interesting dream sequence that we just need to address.
Protagonist Kelly is in the final stages of joining Delta Ro Kai sorority. Not only does she have college to worry about but she has overbearing parents, a whole new relationship and also recurring nightmares that hint at some dark, repressed memories.
The nightmare in question? She sees a man having sex with her mum, herself stabbing said man and then another man being set on fire. Great.
Talk about a dysfunctional upbringing! Kelly clearly has some issues that never got resolved and her memories of the world’s most intense domestic disturbance are haunting her deeply in her subconscious.
As she tries to tackle the troubles of being college-age and navigate her shallow friendships with fellow sorority sisters, the last thing she needs is for a murderer to be on the rampage. Don’t worry, Kelly, I’m sure everything will turn out just fine.
