Never one to bring something formulaic to the table, David Cronenberg is a filmmaker famed for his creativity an ideas that are often as equally disgusting as they are genius.

Front-and-centre when it comes to the most twisted of Cronenberg's pictures, is 1975's Shivers.

Taking place in an elite apartment complex, the crux of this movie sees a turd-like parasite passed from person to person, causing the infected to become violent sexual deviants intent on spreading this parasite to as many people as possible.

Paul Hampton's Roger St. Luc is a doctor in the middle of this, scouring the luxury apartment building in a desperate attempt to stop the spread of this parasite. Unfortunately for St. Luc, his mission is ultimately an unsuccessful one, and he himself ends up falling victim to this parasitic being by the time the film closes.

That close takes place in a swimming pool setting. With St. Luc looking to escape from the insanity of the complex, he attempts to make his exit through the indoor pool area. There, he's confronted by a huge group of the infected, who overpower him and make the doctor one of them.

In typically grim Cronenberg style, the final shot of the film is of the infected masses leaving the complex and driving to the centre of Montreal to find more victims.
