The Movie: David Fincher's classic detective movie starred Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman as two homicide officers thrown together to work on the case of a serial killer whose murders correspond to the seven deadly sins. As Somerset (Freeman) and Mills (Pitt) become more and more involved in the case, their obsession with finding the murderer begins to put their own lives at risk.

The Scare: After Somerset and Mills discover victims chosen to represent the sins gluttony and greed, fingerprints at the previous crime scene lead the detectives to an apartment filled with air fresheners hanging from the ceiling. In the bedroom, they find an emaciated corpse tied to the bed and the word 'sloth' painted across the wall. As they investigate the scene, Somerset and Mills discover a set of photographs taken over the space of a year which depict the man in the bed, chronicling his deteriorating condition.

Suddenly, one of their colleagues steps over the corpse and jumps back screaming when he realises that the body is actually still alive and moving. The police soon discover that the victim was kept alive and immobile for an entire year by the serial killer as punishment for being a drug dealer and child molester.

Fincher expertly crafts this scene, taking his time to lull the audience into a false sense of security before the shocking reveal. It's impossible to imagine the physical and mental torture the man went through and its this surprise factor which makes this particular moment so memorable after the initial shock wears off.
