10 Most Traumatic Moments In Disney Movies

1. Mufasa's Death: The Lion King (1994)

Disney.

Death is a concept that every child at some point will have to come to terms with. Was this really the way to introduce them to it, though? Disney took what is already a traumatic event and injected it with pure terrifying horror.

Now, without a doubt this is one of Disney's greatest movies. It had all the elements to make it a success. The cast included Mathew Broderick, James Earl Jones and Jeremy Irons. Elton John offered up some of the finest songs in cinema, and the story followed the classic hero's journey.

Before our hero could complete his journey, however, Simba was forced to go through some pretty traumatic events to set his tale in motion. And yep, that meant he had to lose a parent.

Disney REALLY went for it on this one. The dramatic music got your heart pounding. The stampede was a terrifying claustrophobic nightmare, and witnessing a character as brave and strong as Mufasa fall screaming to his death was truly horrendous. When it was all over and Mufasa was laying dead, we were then subjected to the heart wrenching scene of Simba attempting to rouse his father from sleep.
