Out of all the Disney movies, those made by Pixar are always the most heartwarming. The characters tend to be the most amusing, and there's always a decent lesson to come away with. Pixar isn't above dropping in the odd bit of childhood trauma, though.

Like Up, Finding Nemo opens with a big helping of WTF?.

We're shown the tranquil and idealistic home of two clownfish, Coral and Marlin, who live on the Great Barrier Reef. They're surrounded by all manor of colourful and picturesque sea creatures, and an ocean of deep Pixar blue. It's also revealed the fish have a fresh batch of tiny eggs, just about ready to hatch. Things seem almost perfect for this young family. Sure enough, though, it's not long before tragedy strikes, or in this case a hungry barracuda.

Desperate to save her children, the mother clownfish rushes to her eggs, causing the barracuda to strike. Marlin tries to intervene but he's knocked unconscious. When he awakes the only egg that remains, is the damaged Nemo. Disney just can't get enough of family tragedy.
