10 Most Underrated 80s Horror Movies

6. Q: The Winged Serpent

A film that feels so thoroughly 80s it might as well dress up in a jazzy jumpsuit and spurt hairspray everywhere, Q: The Winged Serpent embodies all the best cheesy antics of the period into one special-effects laden assault on the senses. Of course, as a piece of Larry Cohen's work, Q is in keeping with his trashy, B-movie, science-fiction vibe, portraying a flying beast that is unwittingly unleashed on Manhattan that makes its deadly home in the Chrysler building.

This isn't just any beastie though, it's an Aztec serpent god hungry for human flesh, rendered through stop-motion in a homage to the jerky monster movies that informed the genre originally. Replete with dorky characters and a premise so bizarre its enjoyable just to listen to, it's a shame that this goofy movie is so often forgotten in recent years.

Q might not be the best made film you'll ever see, but it's heart more than makes up for what it lacks in budget.
