10 Most Underrated Sci-Fi Action Movies

8. Predators

It really is unclear why this strong sequel to the original 1986 classic didn't resonate all that well with audiences, as it really doesn't do a lot wrong. While never reaching the heights of the Arnie lead original, the film dares to take the franchise in a new direction while maintaining a grim and foreboding feel.

Aiden Brody proves himself to be a more than adequate action lead in his role as Royce, an ex mercenary who finds himself stuck on an alien planet with several other criminals. The question of how they came to be on an alien planet inhabited by three central 'Predators' becomes the focus of the first two acts, as they attempt to overcome their differences in a battle for survival.

The mystery of why a seemingly friendly Doctor called Edwin has found himself among a group of murderers is also an interesting plot point, Topher Grace bringing out the Doctor's creepy nature. There is sufficient gore and excitement in the action sequences for fans of the original, while the finale wraps up the narrative nicely while also leaving the door open for a sequel.

After the disappointment that was the Danny Glover lead Predator 2 and the lame Alien v Predator movies, it was great to see the classic 1986 original finally get the decent sequel it deserved.
