10 Most Unlikeable Horror Movie Heroes

8. Claire - Superhost

Shudder

Superhost is absolutely great; a proper hidden gem that can nowadays be found on Shudder. Taking centre-stage, it's phenomenal performances from Gracie Gillam as Rebecca, Osric Chau as Teddy, and Sara Canning as Claire, with a small supporting role for the ever-great Barbara Crampton.

For Teddy and Claire, they're a couple of lovebirds who make a living as travel vloggers. Unfortunately, their next trip is to a stunning, remote property run by erratic superhost, Rebecca. Well, not actually run by Rebecca, for she's murdered the home owners and taken on that position for herself.

What this Brandon Christensen-helmed picture does so well, is that it doesn't try to kid you about its premise. Almost immediately, the audience knows that Rebecca isn't quite what she seems, and the film's poster itself outright shows the erratic nature of the character. Instead, the enjoyment comes in seeing the wide range of emotions from Gracie Gilliam and in predicting when Rebecca will fully embrace the chaos.

While Teddy is a sincere, warm character, his girlfriend Claire sadly lacks those attributes. Yes, the couple's job is to bring in those likes, shares, subscribes for their YouTube channel, but Claire is far too obsessed with that, to an unlikeable level - at one point, ecstatically believing Teddy's filmed marriage proposal to be a staged masterstroke for views, while in reality this was a genuine offer of marriage.

So, when Claire ends Superhost on the wrong side of the maniacal Rebecca, you don't particularly feel any sympathy for her whatsoever.
