10 Most Unnecessary Times Star Wars Used CGI

7. Force Speed - The Phantom Menace

The Phantom Menace features a huge offender early on, when Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) and Qui-Gon (Liam Neeson) use a Force speed ability to suddenly zip down a hallway and avoid fire from the droidekas.

First and foremost, Force speed hadn't been established in the live-action Star Wars movies up to this point, and for it to be introduced here in such a goofy way and then never brought up again just made its inclusion seem completely unnecessary.

There are so many other neat ways George Lucas could've had Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon escape from that situation, such as deflecting the droids' blaster shots or just performing a dodge-roll.

Instead, we got a weird CGI Vaseline smear which passes so damn quickly a lot of fans never even noticed it, further making it seem totally pointless. But once you know it's there, you'll surely never be able to un-see it.
