3. Mary And The Witch’s Flower

Based on The Little Broomstick by beloved British novelist Mary Stewart, this is the debut outing from Ghibli’s offshoot – Studio Ponoc. Mary, a young girl dissatisfied with life, happens upon a school for witches after discovering a magical flower that temporarily grants her magical powers.

It’s another escapist yarn, which has a star-studded English dub featuring Kate Winslet and Jim Broadbent. The whole film is a joy from start to finish, and deserves a place in anime history. In fact, Mary has now become the Studio Ponoc’s mascot.
