10 Most Visually Stunning Horror Movies Ever

5. Let The Right One In

Suspiria Opening Scene
Sandrew Metronome

Every scene of Let The Right One In feels like it was constructed using a sheet of graphing paper. The movie is meticulously designed to be almost perfectly symmetrical in certain places, and all throughout important objects will be placed on the far left and far right with not much in the middle. Take the shot where Oskar and Eli are speaking outside while he's against a tree, and she's on the exact opposite end of the canvas.

This scene also gets across another idea of Oskar being small compared to what's around him, and so he'll frequently be placed in the bottom of the shot. That changes as the film progresses and Oskar begins to share more of himself with Eli, therefore metaphorically growing in stature.

Additionally, the use of light is rather interesting as compared to other entries in this genre. Rarely is anything in a scene not illuminated; massive spotlights and the moon reflecting against the snow seem to liven up every sequence. Indoors, lamps and overhead lights are almost always on, and then there's the end pool sequence which couldn't possibly be any brighter. Cinemetographer Hoyte van Hoytema explained that they "didn't want to create any easy places for our characters to hide," and in some way putting the horror in places where we wouldn't expect it only makes things scarier.
