The most poorly regarded of the cannibal movies, Cannibal Terror was, for a long time, attributed to filthy pervert Jesus Franco, but it turned out it was directed by one Alain Deruelle. The plot concerns a couple of criminals who kidnap a little girl, but this goes awry and they bugger off to the jungle where they stay with some friends. Unfortunately these ne'er do wells rape the wife and the husband sends them marching into cannibal territory in the jungle for some revenge. Much hilarity ensues as we are introduced to the 'natives', who are all clearly Caucasian men with a bit of body paint on them (at least the other cannibal sub genre movies had the self respect to feature authentic natives). The guys in Cannibal Terror sport bald heads, well made hair dos and beer guts. They can hardly suppress their mirth at the rituals Deruelle makes them enact. The gore doesn't arrive for quite a while, and when it does, it is lame. An awful lot of screen time is devoted to the natives dancing about. The dialogue and dubbing are both atrocious, the storyline and plot elements are poorly constructed and rather inconceivable. This is the definitive lamest video nasty of all time.
