10 Movie "Sequels" That Were Really Just Remakes

The "Sequel": The seventh film in the Rocky franchise shifts the focus to Apollo Creed's son Adonis (Michael B. Jordan) as he's plucked from obscurity to take on a proven champion, with boxing legend Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) serving as his trainer.

Why It's Just A Remake: The core of Creed is basically a carbon copy of the first Rocky, with the hungry underdog getting a shot at the big time and losing but proving his worth to himself and everyone else. Throw in a relationship subplot, a memorable trainer (with Stallone gracefully shifting into the Burgess Meredith role) and some montages, and it's pretty much the same.

The inspirational sports movie has been done over so many times on screen that the repetition actually didn't hurt Creed too much. It did a great job milking audience nostalgia for the original and retelling the same plot in a clever way, anchored by Stallone's Oscar-nominated performance.
