10 Movie "Sequels" That Were Really Just Remakes
7. Jurassic World
The "Sequel": Twenty-two years after the original movie, Jurassic Park has been transformed into Jurassic World, a successful dinosaur theme park, but of course, it's not long before all Hell breaks loose.
Why It's Just A Remake: The shell of the first movie is recycled note for note: people with more money than sense create a dinosaur theme park (which in this case actually opens), their hubris allows dinos to escape, they eat lots of people, before a T-Rex helps the main characters survive by taking on the main threat to the good guys.
Oh, and there's a hard-a** character who doesn't want kids but kinda comes around to the idea at the end (Bryce Dallas Howard playing the Sam Neil substitute), two annoying child characters who have to fend for themselves, a scene where the main characters comfort an unwell animal, use of a flare when facing off against a dinosaur, and a ton more things that blur the line between homage and self-plagiarism.
Enough time has passed that, with fancy new effects and a totally new cast, Jurassic World appears different enough on the surface to get by most viewers, but if you really look at the plot, it's hilariously similar. An extremely safe remakequel that unsurprisingly made a cool $1.6+ billion worldwide.
