10 Movie Actors Who Did Their Best Work On TV
2. Bill Pullman - The Sinner
When you think about the actor Bill Pullman, most people will get flashbacks to his conquering role as President Whitmore in Independence Day or his hilarious leading man Lone Starr in Spaceballs. Those certainly are great performances in memorable movies, but surprisingly, it is this procedural police drama that shows what he's capable of.
The Sinner is an anthology series that shows a Detective called Harry Ambrose (played, obviously, by Bill Pullman) as he attempts to solve brutal murders and uncover the killers' motives. There's a real focus on how ordinary everyday people deal with barbaric crime that makes it stand out among typical police schlock.
Pullman is magnetic in the role. Harry Ambrose is a character who strikes you with his professionalism but also his humanity. You can see the impact these startling crimes have on him, but Pullman shows Harry's strength as he pushes through the struggle and pain.
He also paints the picture of a very haunted man with a dark past and a lonely lifestyle. Harry is deeply flawed but all the more relatable because of it. All of this is captured by Pullman with expert skill.
