10 Movie Actors Who Were Discovered In Unusual Ways

5. Haley Joel Osment Was Discovered At Ikea

Picture this: you walk into an Ikea store, and you see two women sat at a table, taking polaroid pictures of all the kids that walk by. You'd probably be alarmed by this creepy behaviour, and you might even go and have a stern word with them.

But if you're Haley Joel Osment, you don't do anything of the sort. Instead, you happily let the women take your picture, which, in turn, leads to you being cast in one of the most famous movies of all time: M. Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense.

This bizarre Ikea scenario is exactly how the young talent was discovered back in the 1990s. Those two women weren't shady randomers snapping photos of kids - they were in the casting business, and had set their table up at Ikea's Burbank branch in the hopes of finding some talented youngsters for acting jobs.

While Osment's movie career isn't what it once was, he's stayed incredibly busy in the TV space over the last couple of years, and his lucrative lifestyle can all be traced back to a strange encounter at that overpriced furniture store.
