10 Movie Actors With Far More Range Than You Think

1. Samuel L. Jackson

While it's fair to say that Samuel L. Jackson is a global megastar thanks to his immense performances in blockbuster movies such as Pulp Fiction, the Marvel Cinematic Universe and (obviously) Snakes on a Plane, it's equally fair to say he usually plays a very similar character in everything he does... right?

So very wrong! Samuel L. is much more than a smooth talking, mother flipping badass and he seems to have a very open mind when it comes to the roles he takes. Seamlessly blurring the lines between hero and villain, Jackson is more than capable of taking either role with some lesser appreciated career highlights coming in the more nefarious roles.

The key example of Jackson reinventing himself for a role comes in Kingsman: The Secret Service wherein he portrays the softly spoken, somewhat timid villain: Richmond Valentine - a complete departure from his usual tough talking, intimidating typecasting.

More impressive than that? Jackson can transition away from centre stage with ease and take up supporting roles to compliment his co-stars perfectly. His performance as the aged butler Stephen in Django Unchained was verging on overacting but he plays the perfect counterpart to Leonardo DiCaprio's frankly unhinged Calvin J. Candie.

A world class actor well worthy of his plaudits but much more versatile than many have ever realised.
