10 Movie Character Fates Only Explained In DVD Extras

Newt was discovered as the sole survivor of mining colony LV-426. When asked about the fate of her family by Ripley, Newt told her quite frankly, that they were all dead.

It wasn't until the release of the extended edition of Aliens that we would discover both what happened to her family, and the colony.

We see Newt's family were the ones who re-discovered the crashed Space Jockey ship from the first film. Newt's parents explore the wreckage, but Newt's father is attacked by a Face-Hugger, making him the first of the colonists to become an Alien host.

The family's discovery is what ultimately caused the fall of the colony. The first Xenomorph would have burst out of Newt's dear old dad and gone on a rampage. It's even possible this particular critter could have evolved into the Alien Queen seen at the end of the film.

Whilst the scene is a pretty big deal, it was cut to make the fate of the colony more suspenseful, and it's hard to argue with that decision given how the film turned out.

But it still provides a satisfying explanation as to exactly how the colony and Newt's family managed to run afoul of the Aliens.
