10 Movie Characters Created As A F**k You To Real People
7. Tropic Thunder's Les Grossman Is Based On A Pair Of Real Movie Producers
Who The Character Is: Repulsively hirsute and profane producer of Tropic Thunder, a man so repugnant that most audiences had no idea the actor playing Grossman under all that latex and fake hair was none other than Tom Cruise until the credits rolled. Grossman gets irate at the drop of a hat, verbally abusing those around him in order to get what he wants and occasionally getting down to Flo Rida's Low in order to unwind. Who He Really Is: Visually, Grossman bears a remarkable similarity to real-life Tropic Thunder producer Stuart Cornfeld (it's hard to imagine Cornfeld would've been too impressed by the fact that Cruise's idea of a disgusting movie exec was one that seems physically modelled on him), but rumours abound that Grossman's personality was taken from a different source. That would be studio exec Sumner Redstone, the notoriously vain Hollywood player who Cruise fell out with in 2006 after Redstone called the actor "embarrassing" and blamed him for losing Paramount Pictures money.
Lover of film, writer of words, pretentious beyond belief. Thinks Scorsese and Kubrick are the kings of cinema, but PT Anderson and David Fincher are the dashing young princes. Follow Brogan on twitter if you can take shameless self-promotion: @BroganMorris1
