4. Lady In The Water's Harry Farber Is An Insult To Two Critics

Who The Character Is: A condescending, uptight, know-it-all critic played by Bob Balaban, Harry Farber is the total opposite of Vick Ran, a genius author set to change the world for the better (self-involvedly played by the film's own writer and director, M Night Shyamalan. After trying unsuccessfully to use his knowledge alone to defeat the monsters in Shyamalan's modern fairytale, Farber is brutally killed. Who He Really Is: Hardly stretching himself creatively, Shyamalan didn't make a big leap to the name Harry Farber from the names Manny Farber and Stephen Farber, two film critics the director had taken a specific dislike to.
