In a slightly less depressing example of the fourth wall wrecking some characters, we have Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which offers up a thoroughly silly rendition of Arthurian legend.

The film ends with King Arthur (Graham Chapman) and Sir Bedevere (Terry Jones) preparing to wage an all-out war against the French army, only for some modern-day police officers to interrupt the scene and arrest Arthur and Bedevere for the death of an historian earlier in the film. The End.

While the duo at least survived, their plans were thoroughly scuppered by an insanely unexpected fourth wall break which, hilariously enough, was only conceived by the Python crew due to budgetary constraints.
