10 Movie Characters Who Died Happy

6. V - V For Vendetta (2005)

Based on a comic book, V For Vendetta is a biting tale of revolution and totalitarianism. At its heart is Hugo Weaving's blistering performance as the alliteration-loving, masked protagonist, known simply as V. His relationship with Natalie Portman's character, Evey, provides the narrative thrust of the film as she becomes embroiled in his campaign to reinvigorate the memory of Guy Fawkes by using a London Underground train to blow up the Houses of Parliament. As his plan comes to fruition and his followers dominate London, V is taken down in a blaze of glory and a hail of gunfire. He hands over control of his explosives to Evey, having set all of the necessary groundwork for his scheme. He is able to take down the government he despises and declare his feelings for Evey as his new world order begins to take shape. For a man who has dedicated himself to the cause of revolution, death in the heat of battle, when victory is almost certain, is the perfect honour.
