10 Movie Characters Everyone Thought Were Secret Villains
5. Winston Deavor - Incredibles 2
Given Disney's overegged penchant for the hidden villain trope, it was a reasonable expectation that Incredibles 2's primary antagonist, Screenslaver, would end up being one of the film's benevolent characters in disguise.
And honestly, who fit the bill more blatantly than Winston Deavor (Bob Odenkirk), the uber-wealthy tech mogul-slash-superhero fanboy? His affable demeanour reeked of superficiality, and how often does Hollywood give us ultra-rich businessmen who aren't terrible people?
It was incredibly easy to believe that Winston took the guise of Screenslaver in a misguided attempt to artificially boost the Incredibles' public standing.
Plus, if you cast Bob Odenkirk of all people in your kids movie, you're damn right he's probably playing the bad guy.
Yet in a genuinely shocking bait-and-switch, the Screenslaver was ultimately revealed to be not Winston but his sister, Evelyn (Catherine Keener). Evelyn Deavor = evil endeavour, get it?
Winston meanwhile is a genuine superhero enthusiast who wanted to help the Incredibles rehabilitate their image and had no idea what his disgruntled sis was up to.
