When you have a show about an alien who can literally go anywhere and anywhen in the entire multiverse, the options for science fiction are quite vast. And so we find the time-traveling alien known only as The Doctor meeting up with his newest lady-sidekick in, of all places, the North Pole. With the help of Santa Claus (yes, you heard me right), they discover a gathering of parasites which attach to their victims’ faces and put them into a false reality in order to distract them from the fact that the parasite is feeding off of their brain matter.

This is similar to Existenz in its dream-within-a-dream-within-a-dream scenario, but with some strong humor from St. Nick. It’s basically like if Ridley Scott made another one of his meandering prequels into a lovely family Christmas special. There’s not really any new ground trod here, but it’s fun to see jolly old Saint Nicholas jumping into the false reality fray.
