6. Alonzo Emmerich in The Asphalt Jungle
This one might need some explaining. John Huston's 1950 heist noir film tells the story of a professional burglar, a hood and a safe-cracker on a mission to get some jewels. To finance the whole ordeal, they get in touch with the stodgy and crooked lawyer Alonzo Emmerich. But Emmerich has found himself in hard financial times. What follows is a robbery gone wrong, followed by a series of double-crosses. So where does the girl fall in here? Emmerich's financial situation is made more complicated by his young mistress. The mistress? Marilyn Monroe, a full two-years prior to scoring her first leading role. In fact, when the film was made she was so unknown she didn't make it into the top 10 actors billed.
