10 Movie Characters Who Had Every Right To Become The Villain

2. Clyde Shelton - Law Abiding Citizen

Law Abiding Citizen Gerard Butler

In the wake of his family being shockingly murdered during the opening scene, Law Abiding Citizen sees Clyde Shelton go to some somewhat villainous lengths as he goes on to target the corrupt justice system.

Understandably fuming after watching the killer of his wife and daughter get away with a lighter sentence, this former CIA worker makes it his mission to not just take out those who broke into his home that night, but those within the justice system who let this injustice happen.

Again, his methods were certainly villainous here, and resulted in numerous murders during the film's runtime, with Clyde blowing up the assistants of Nick Rice - the lawyer who agreed to that aforementioned lighter sentence - brutally torturing and murdering Darby - the person responsible for the death of his family - killing a judge and cellmate, and threatening to blow up City Hall.

Even with all of those merciless moments, though, it's still tough not to root for a father and husband who was forced into this particular position after being put through such an ordeal and being so thoroughly let down by the law.
