10 Movie Characters Whose Fates Are Never Resolved

5. Paul Holt - Friday The 13th Part 2

The entire point of the Friday the 13th franchise is to serve up a platter of dopey, over-sexed young folk to the machete-wielding maniac Jason Voorhees, so especially bizarre it was that the series' second entry wasted a perfectly ripe opportunity to off one of its principal characters.

After Jason is seemingly "killed" in the climax, survivors Ginny (Amy Steel) and Paul (John Furey) are resting up back at their cabin when, all of a sudden, Jason bursts through the window, grabbing Ginny.

Except...it's all a dream, at which point Ginny awakens to find herself being tended to by the medics, while calling out for Paul, who is nowhere to be seen.

None of the subsequent news reports or glimpses at Jason's makeshift shack confirm that Paul indeed died, leaving his fate weirdly ambiguous for a blood-thirsty slasher flick.

The film's screenwriter, Ron Kurz, did however confirm that the original filmed ending more explicitly implied that Paul was dead, with the decapitated head of Jason's mother Pamela (Betsy Palmer) smiling creepily, rather than being totally motionless as it is in the actual ending of the movie.

While it's not terribly likely that Paul survived, we also have no concrete evidence on film that he definitely ended up on the business-end of Jason's machete.
