10 Movie Characters You Didn't Realise Actually Survived

As much as a great movie death can give a character a truly memorable send-off and help tie a film together, sometimes filmmakers aren't fully committed to the idea of killing off their favourite characters, and so leave the door open for them to return.

In blatant examples this could be a post-credits scene revealing the villain to have survived their "death," though in all the movies featured on this list, audiences had largely already bolted out of the cinema long before the credits reached their end.

In more subtle terms, filmmakers have left it up to audiences to deduce the particulars themselves, following the classic adage that if you don't definitively see a dead body, then the character probably isn't dead.

In rare cases the director might've even taken to social media to confirm, perhaps decades after the fact, that a fan favourite character everyone believed to be dead had actually survived their not-demise.

Whether you loved or hated these characters, each ultimately lived to fight another day - or given that many of them never actually got their hinted-at sequels, perhaps not...

The woefully disappointing Kick-Ass 2 ends with antagonist Chris D'Amico - aka "The Motherf**ker" - seemingly meeting his grisly end after he falls into a water tank and is violently mauled to death by a shark.

By the time the film ended, most viewers were so thoroughly fed up with it that they likely didn't feel like sitting through the credits and waiting for a potential post-credits scene.

But alas, Kick-Ass 2 does indeed feature a little-known end stinger, revealing that Chris is in hospital having inexplicably survived his encounter with the shark.

He's still alive at considerable cost, though, having lost both of his legs and also his penis to the hungry shark.

Though this was clearly intended to set up a third film, the apathetic audience reception - and its resultingly mediocre box office performance - quickly put the kibosh on those plans.
