5. Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Spider-Man)
I'm going with the Sam Raimi film version of Peter Parker - I haven't seen The Amazing Spider-Man yet. It's still too soon.
Just because you bought me a new pet doesn't mean I'll stop mourning my beloved old dead one, damnit! Anyway... Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, is an absolute gem of a person. He is kind and accepting of others, even tolerating J. Jonah Jameson's rants about why his alter-ego is a menace, and how easy it is to get pictures of Julia Roberts in a thong. He gets into fights - a lot - but he is the defender rather than the attacker, and can hold his own. He cares deeply about his Aunt May, and always gives support and encouragement to Mary Jane Watson, whether she's on the stage or working at a greasy felafel joint. And yes, I prefer to think that Peter holding onto memories of Mary Jane in a play that he watched in second grade is sweet, rather than stalker-y. Of course, the thing that often prevents Peter from having lasting and fulfilling relationships is the fact that he's afraid supervillains will realise who he's courting and try to crush 'em like bugs. But COME ON PETER. The Green Goblin and Doc Ock used to be world-class scientists, they weren't born yesterday. They're gonna work it out, coffee dates or no coffee dates. Throw caution to the wind! And ladies, even though he's far from reliable, I think it's okay to cut somebody some slack when they're saving the city from annihilation.
