Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings movies had gigantic budgets and crazy special effects, with advanced computer technology being used to generate a giant flaming eye in the sky and award-winning makeup artists creating hordes of orcs and goblins, so it seems a bit crazy to think that one of the horses in the film was actually just two guys in a suit.

Just like in a British Christmas pantomime, Bill, the pony belonging to Samwise Gamgee, had to be played by a couple of people rather than a real animal in certain scenes. Due to the difficult terrain in certain filming locations, the production decided that it made more sense to use a panto pony than trying to get a live animal walking through a sticky swamp.

Unfortunately, trying to get two guys to walk through that sort of place while attempting to keep their balance in such a cumbersome costume didn't prove to be the easiest thing in the world either. Not only were the actors hot and sweaty inside the suit, they also nearly fell over on multiple occasions, with workers have to rush in and help the horse stay upright on multiple occasions.
