There are a generation of people out there who have entirely blocked out Bambi, because just thinking about this film is enough to make you hide under a blanket and cry. What many people have forgotten is that Bambi is a beautiful film, with a gentle, delicate, Japanese-inspired art direction that is visually different from any of the other Disney movies of the same time period.

Bambi is sweet and adorable, representing the innocence of childhood through the lens of a baby deer. That is, until little Bambi is forced to face the reality of the cruel world around her (him? Not sure) in the form of a nameless, faceless hunter that shoots her mother seemingly out of nowhere late in the film.

Bambi doesn't know what has happened (she doesn't know what death is, really) but the image of her curled around her dead mother's body reduces viewers to a puddle of tears on the floor every single time.

No wonder no one likes to remember the details of Bambi.
