10 Movie Dreams That Died In 2019

5. Wesley Snipes' Dream Of Playing Blade In The MCU

Wesley Snipes' original Blade movie was, in part, responsible for kicking off the "golden age" of comic-book adaptations that we live in today.

It was a solid flick that spawned two sequels, which, sadly, got worse as they went along, but still, Snipes' Blade could be described as an influential cult figure within the superhero movie space, and an important part of the history of the genre.

However, it's been 15 years since Blade: Trinity - the third film - and since then, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has risen to dominance.

The chances of Snipes playing Blade again in this modern era of comic-book movies was always going to be slim (particularly as the MCU likes to start from scratch when building its characters), but that didn't stop him from campaigning for the role, telling THR that he was "open" to the possibility of a Blade 4, and informing Deadline that he had met with Marvel to discuss it.

But, alas, that dream is now dead. At San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Kevin Feige announced that two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali will be playing the MCU's Blade, taking Snipes out of the game. He could still appear in a supporting role, sure, but he's probably secretly gutted that he won't be the main attraction.
