Snowpiercer is one of the those fun movies that depicts a post-apocalyptic society that has somehow managed to preserve a rigid class structure in what is probably the simplest visual metaphor ever: a train. Each section of the train represents a different class of people, where the dregs of the society barely survive in the caboose, and the rich elites living in luxury near the front of the train.

Now, living on a train for the rest of your life, in tight quarters and with a rapidly dwindling food supply, sounds like a terrible enough scenario. But the caste system that exists on this train combined with the extreme violence inflicted upon the tail passengers is just horrible beyond words.

And while conditions in the worst part of the train seem to have mellowed into a numb sort of resignation (aside from the resistance that springs up), we learn that the history of the train may have been even darker. Like, being on the brink of starvation and resorting to eating babies darker.
