10 Movie Endings That Get Worse The More You Think About Them

2. Alice's Grim Awakening - Don't Worry Darling

Don't Worry Darling
Warner Bros.

Don't Worry Darling climaxes with protagonist Alice (Florence Pugh) finally managing to escape the simulated world of Victory and reawaken in the real world, but before we can see what happens next, the film abruptly ends.

Yet a rather unsettling picture is painted considering what we know of Alice's existence outside of the simulation - she lies in bed in her apartment hooked up to the simulation by her husband Jack (Harry Styles), who also has her shackled.

But considering that Alice kills Jack at the end, in turn killing him in real life also, she's presumably going to wake up restrained in her apartment with her hubby's corpse rotting next to her.

Sure, she can scream for help and maybe a neighbour will summon the police for a welfare check, but even then, won't her body be severely atrophied from being bed-bound in a simulation?

Though the ending frame's Alice's escape as a triumphant moment, it's safe to say that pure, uncut bleakness awaits her upon awakening.
