10 Movie Endings That Left You Speechless

6. Avengers: Infinity War

Few films in the history of cinema have left viewers of all ages completely shook like the conclusion to Avengers: Infinity War.

Though we spend the film watching Thanos (Josh Brolin) acquire the Infinity Stones, we're never quite sure if Marvel's going to pull the trigger and have him snap half the universe out of existence, or if the conflict might simply continue into the sequel.

But of course after a prolonged battle Thanos is successful in his quest, snapping his Infinity Gauntlet-clad fingers and causing half of all living things in the universe to disintegrate into dust.

This includes many prominent Avengers, most heartbreakingly Peter Parker (Tom Holland), whose abject fear remains tough to watch today.

The audience is then given a few moments to soak in the enormity of the Avengers losing, before the film ends on a true masterstroke moment: Thanos sitting on a distant planet, watching the sunrise, quietly contented at a job well done.

While it wasn't exactly a shocker when the snap was undone in Avengers: Endgame, this was still an absolute jaw-dropper of an ending that left fans agonising for an entire year before it was rectified.
