10 Movie Endings That Wanted To Piss You Off
5. The World's End - The Clue Was In The Title
The Cornetto Trilogy continually promised two things: a hefty body count and quick-witted humour. So there was no question that the third entry wouldn't bring the same combination.
The World's End, on a first watch, seemed like an unusual addition to the movie series. Yes, the usual stylistic editing and English humour were present, but there was the lack of an obvious theme that was seen in the two prior movies.
But then, about a third in, things begin to change. A quick altercation in the gentleman's toilets turns into a world-shattering revelation for our drunken protagonist Gary when the head of his assailant pops straight off in a stream of blue-dye.
Turns out Gary's hometown, the town he wrangled his peers into returning to for a one-night bar crawl, has been taken over by an "Invasion Of The Body Snatchers" style alien race. The rest of the movie is a lot less of comedy and a lot more of killing weird alien versions of their old school friends. But it's the final few moments of the movie that caused a stir with audiences.
When Gary and his friends get the chance to meet the alien leader, they somehow manage to make him believe that there is no hope for the human race, and what was to be a "peaceful" take over, turns into an all-out apocalypse. The ending scenes of an earthly wasteland are comedic, sure, but also completely enraging for audiences in it's nihilism.
